He will demonstrate how much of his work in many idioms reflects his broad interest and participation in the tradtional folkloric music of all the places he has appeared as a composer/conductor/performer and author during the past 50 years. Amram will also demonstrate many of the instruments he learned to play during his world travels, and how over the years he has continued to absorb the many genres of what is now called World Music, decades before that term became fashionable.

From playing jazz French horn with Dizzy Gillespie in Cuba, conducting his own operas and concertos in New York City, playing the shanai and dumbek in Cairo Egypt and the Husai in Chendu China, Amram will show how he drew upon these various idioms of folkloric music and combined them with both the Western classical symphonic traditions and the discipline and spontaneity of jazz and middle eastern music.
